Karsilama (9/8)
Karsilama is considered to be a limping rhythm due to its uneven time signature. There are a number of ways to count the rhythm, counting 123456789, counting 1-2-3-4&a or counting 1-2-3-123. I prefer the first and last. This is the rhythm associated with Turkish Rom dancing, though there are actually several versions of the karsilama rhythm and the one used on this page is the version used in vintage oriental belly dance. You can purchase the song used in the clip below from Amazon.
Samai (10/8)
Samai is a nice slow rhythm that is sometimes used in the place of chiftitelli during the taxseem portion of the full belly dance routine.
