Online Learning Resources
While the absolute best option for learning belly dance is an in person instructor, you can supplement your learning with articles, DVDs, online video classes, and even skype classes. I've collected some of the online resources I'm aware of on this page. If you know of one that hasn't been listed, feel free to email me your suggestion.
Ansuya - Ansuya used to be with the Belly Dance Super Stars. She has several DVDs available (check out my DVD Recommendations page) and now also has online classes. She also offers Skype lessons and occasionally Powhow workshops.
Datura Online Classes - Created by Rachel Brice, this website has many tribal fusion, yoga, and a few cabaret based classes. Some are strength based and good for any style of dance. You can rent just one class or pay a monthly subscription for access to all the classes. The best part is they have classes for all levels of dancers from beginner to advanced.
Fat Chance Belly Dance - If you are interested in learning ATS, Fat Chance Belly Dance has courses on Powhow.
Mahin - Mahin publishes the "Daily Belly Dance Quickies" newsletter, and I highly recommend subscribing! Each day you get a little bit of information in your inbox covering a wide range of levels and topics. She also has a large number of videos on youtube.
Nadira Jamal - Nadira has a newsletter that goes out once or twice a month with interesting dance related articles and several online learning courses available for purchase.
Raqstv - RaqsTV is a collection of online classes and DVDs that are available for streaming.
Shira - Shira is a dance instructor from Iowa who has created one of the most extensive collection of belly dance related articles I've come across. She has information on just about every topic and regularly ads new articles.
Suhaila Salimpour - Suhaila is an instructor from California who has an extensive collection of online classes. She also has audio learning tools (called Drill Breaks) you can purchase and download. I would only recommend her classes and Drill Breaks for Intermediate and up students. Even the things she classifies as "beginner" can be VERY challenging.
